In this cultural gem on the Rock, you can discover Irish culture and the link between Ireland and the Princess Grace and the Princely Family.

The Library is located on the Rock, on the first floor of the former residence of Count Félix Gastaldi (1821-1906), Mayor of Monaco for 39 years. This house, with its unique architecture, features superb painted ceilings, one of which depicts the Gastaldi family coat of arms, and a statuette of the Virgin Mary – Mater Misericordiae – on the façade. Numerous photographs will reveal the furnishings of this superb house when it was still inhabited.

The Princess Grace Irish Library was established on 20 November 1984, two years after the death of Princess Grace. It was inaugurated by Prince Rainier III in tribute to his late wife, her Irish origins and her affection for the Emerald Isle, where her grandfather, John B. Kelly, was born. The Princess’s personal collection of Irish-American books and sheet music forms the core of the Library. Visitors will be invited to browse through albums documenting her visits to Ireland, including the memorable State Visit in 1961. Superb books in tribute to Grace Kelly trace her birth in Philadelphia, her early days as an actress, her marriage to Prince Rainier III, her life in the Principality and her ties to Ireland and America, countries that remained dear to her heart.
