“Architecture and uses 1892-2025”
Les Ateliers du Logoscope are nestled in the heart of the former Hôtel du Crédit Lyonnais, built in 1892 by the prolific and talented architect of Nice, Sébastien Marcel Biasini. In its 133 years of existence, the building had many occupants whose needs have evolved over time, leading to some interior modifications.
The hotel was originally built at the request of Mr and Mrs Henri Germain (founder of Crédit Lyonnais), who wanted to establish the bank’s headquarters in La Turbie, along with their apartments and those of their servants. Currently owned by the Monegasque State, it is home to several cultural organisations. The Logoscope – a research and creation laboratory – occupies the spaces formerly used by the servants.
The entrance is through an outdoor courtyard with a pot garden and refreshment area. It offers guests and residents a space for socialising and sharing. With the adjoining entrance hall, artists can showcase a variety of poetic forms. The ground floor also features two spaces, including the former kitchen, dedicated to ceramics. A large staircase leads to the second floor, where one can see a Eiffel-style glass roof. This top floor houses the rest of the versatile and communal ateliers, at the crossroads of the architect’s studio and the workshop. And a surprise awaits there: a magnificent living postcard from a window overlooking the Monte-Carlo Casino.
Beyond the heritage aspect, this tour gives the opportunity to discover or rediscover the works of Ivana Boris, Yannick Cosso, Loeky Firet, Mimoza Koïke, Nathalie Quinton, Racca Vammerisse, Agnès Roux and other artists who have left their mark over the past 28 years.
